Apple is publicly opposing Proposition 8 and making a donation of $100,000 to the No on 8 campaign. Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person’s fundamental rights — including the right to marry — should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8.

Usually I read FiveThirtyEight.com each morning to feel better about the future. It’s my favorite polling site (Electoral-vote.com is a close 2nd).

Before I could log on this morning, Dangermarc sent me the link for FiveThirtyEight’s coverage of California’s Prop 8. It’s great to see them covering this important issue. Unfortunately, it didn’t give me the normal glee that reading their site so often does. FiveThirtyEight is calling Prop 8 a toss-up, too close to call. Ugh.

My friends and I held a cocktail party fundraiser last weekend. We raised over $3,200 for the cause. The Equality For All folks have released their first ads opposing the marriage ban in California. One is aimed at young voters, which I think is smart thinking.
