Gay Marriage Update: New York and New Hampshire

New York Governor Patterson has called a special session of the Legislature for next Tuesday. On the agenda will be same-sex marriage.

Also, anti-gay bigots have been feeling like hot shit after their Maine win. Unfortunately, that means they might be considering a repeal of New Hampshire’s gay marriage law too. Oy vey, here we go again.

Gay Marriage (and Domestic Partnership) Update – NH, NV

New Hampshire finally reached a compromise between Governor Lynch’s desire to protect religious organizations and employees and the State Assembly’s different ideas on the matter. A vote is expected on Wednesday and both houses of the legislature and the governor seem happy. Gay marriage is coming to New Hampshire… Woo!!!

The Nevada State Legislature voted to override a gubernatorial veto, thereby initiating domestic partnerships in the state. Via NYT: “The significance here is it literally equates domestic partner with spouse under Nevada state law,” said Michael Ginsburg of the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada. “You have the full force of the law behind you now,” Mr. Ginsburg said. “When you’re in the hospital, forced to make decisions for your partner, all you have to say is, ‘This is my spouse,’ and that carries tremendous weight.”
