What’s Worse? Being called Old or a Republican?
That’s what John McCain’s camp struggled with today. They mistakenly took Obama’s remarks about McCain “losing his bearings” to be referring to McCain’s age. So they shot back and drew even more attention to McCain’s age by denying he’s old.
What Obama was really trying to say was that McCain was on this maverick path toward conducting a respectable campaign. When McCain highlighted the news that Hamas supports an Obama presidency, Obama said McCain was suggesting that McCain was losing his political bearings, thus stepping off the path of a clean and respectable campaign.
I guess old fogies mishear things and then get testy when they think you’re calling them old (even if you’re not).
