Sicko

Sicko movie posterMatty, Migs and I watched Sicko this weekend. There’s not much I can say that countless others haven’t already said. All I’m going to tell you is: Go rent this movie.

I’m not generally a huge Michael Moore fan. In his previous movies I think his antics only prove he’s not trying to reach across party lines. His goal was to preach to the choir. But, in Sicko, Moore tones down his rhetoric quite a bit. The result is a movie that I believe will play a significant role in dispelling the propagandistic lies we’ve been fed about socialized medicine. And, eventually this movie may being an catalyst to help move us closer to universal coverage for all Americans.

My favorite person in the whole movie was Tony Benn who was a member of the Labour Party and a British MP for 51 years. His thoughts on democracy resonated with me deeply:

“Keeping people hopeless and pessimistic – see I think there are two ways in which people are controlled – first of all frighten people and secondly demoralize them… An educated, healthy and confident nation is harder to govern.”

Matty sent me this Youtube clip about California’s attempt to provide health care for everyone. The effort is called California OneCare. Watch and explore more.
